Something has gotta change!...
Submitted by ccorigliano on February 18, 2010 - 5:55pm.“Something has gotta change!”…..We sometimes hear that phrase at the beginning of Lent. If we’ve said those words, meant them, and have begun to act upon them; perhaps they are indeed moments of graced clarity and murmurs of sanity in our daily lives.

Verses on the First Sunday of Advent
Submitted by Fr. Frank on November 24, 2009 - 6:13pm.Verses on the First Sunday of Advent:
Before the curtain rises and the baton moves,
before the gift is given and the box unwrapped,
before the hand is held and the kiss received;
there is a moment,
so slight,
so real.
Brushed again by a whisper,
the Word,
"alive".
An advent,
another Advent,
so thin and lingering a presence at this dusk,
wafting through raked leaves and wet grass.
This Advent,
so close,
sweeping the soul,
Get set for the time change

When I was in grade school summer vacations seemed to last forever. The promise of three months off was the norm. And to my young mind, the languid days from the end of May to the beginning of September, moved at a glacial pace. Now at sixty years of age, summers whiz by. Where did it go? Now you see it, and now you don't.

Authentic Holiness Equals Real Balance
Submitted by Fr. Frank on February 25, 2009 - 2:36pm.Authentic Holiness Equals Real Balance
Well here we are at Lent again and it's time for that old Catholic question, "What do I give up for Lent?" This year I suggest giving up...nothing! Let's just try adding something to our lives, namely real balance to our lives.
How many times do we catch ourselves saying: "My life is out of control. I'm running in circles!"? Maybe this is the time to stop and readjust the gyroscope.
Laying down the keel during Lent

Living here in Mystic is a wonderful experience. During the spring and summer the coast is speckled with sailboats gliding through the wind and waves. Coming from central Ohio, I haven't seen too many sailboats dotting the farmland around Columbus! So, for me yawls, ketches, cutters, and catboats are very mysterious critters indeed. Why don't they tip over in the wind? One word...keel.
The Pondering Heart
Submitted by Fr. Frank on January 7, 2009 - 8:55am.The Pondering Heart Well, it's that time again for 2009 new year's resolutions.Whoopee! Ready or not here they come! We all do it.Tonight at some snowy stop light, or police road check, we'll begin to mull over what's next in our lives."Gotta get in shape; get to the gym; take off a handle or two...or three! Hey, summers coming; and me in swimsuit now...whoa!"
“Oh Lordy, do we ever hate to wait!”
Submitted by Fr. Frank on December 16, 2008 - 10:10am.Ever since I was an altar boy at St. Teresa's in Pittsburgh, PA, year in and year out countless preachers have come to this liturgical season, climbed into pulpits, and repeated something like this: "My dear friends in Christ, Advent is a season of waiting, a waiting for the miracle of Christ's birth." O.K. this I can and do believe. But from my own experience of life, I also believe that Americans HATE TO WAIT...for anything, especially miracles!
