The Saint Michael Institute of Sacred Art in Mystic, Connecticut will present three workshops on Gregorian Chant.  Located on a picturesque island in Mystic, Conn., the programs are designed for beginners as well as music directors, cantors, and choir members.  The purpose of the Institutes are to study how to read and interpret this ancient form of sung prayer, and to integrate it into parish worship and the community.  Dr. William Tortolano, Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts/Music at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, VT, is the instructor.  An internationally-known expert on Gregorian Chant, he is translator of Beginning Studies in Gregorian Chant, by the late Dom Cardine, O.S.B., of Saint Pierre de Solesmes Benedictine Monastery in France, as well as A Gregorian Chant Handbook.  Saint Edmund's Retreat is an ideal location for prayer and study.
