"...and he went off to a lonely place and prayed there." (Mark 1:35)
Wouldn't you like to get alone – with God?
Jesus did, too. In the hustle and bustle of the crowds pressing on him for cures, for miracles, and for the Word of God, the evangelists tell us that Jesus frequently withdrew to commune with his Father.
At St. Edmund’s Retreat, you can find the peace, the beauty, and the grace of God which we frequently miss in the busy-ness of our everyday lives. The exquisite Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption and the intimate Fisherman’s Chapel in the Main House are both open 24 hours a day for prayer and meditation. The many gardens, pathways, and shrines on Enders Island also provide opportunities for reflection and appreciation of what the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins called "the grandeur of God."
Daily Mass is celebrated in the Chapel of Our Lady, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation can be scheduled during your retreat. If you wish to conduct your retreat in silence, we can also arrange for a quiet room for meals in silence. Also, daily sessions with a spiritual director can also be arranged if you wish some direction during your retreat.
